HMAS Perth

Last Saturday, I went diving at Sunda Strait. Our plan is to dive at HMAS Perth. From the beginning, I have been warned that the area is suitable only for experienced diver. Well, I was scared at the beginning but curious to see the wreck. Furthermore, It has been for a while I did not dive. So the first diving in 2011 was HMAS Perth.
We went from a small Pier in Bojonegara area (Banten Provoince). The name of the Pier itself is Grenyang. There were 2 boats that departed that day. So we splitted into 2 teams. My husband and I and 3 Indonesian and 1 Australian and 1 German guy in one team.
After about 40 minutes sailing, the dive master tried to locate the shipwreck using a GPS. He also brought a sound finder.
When we found the wreck, the boat threw the anchor. The dive master check the location, he said it is good because current is not to strong. So we went down with a rope until around 25 meters, then we saw there she is ...... lying down on the sand. We dive along the wreck ..... it was beautiful and very big ship wreck.
I could not imagine a strong ship like that now sank in a quite place and became a place for fishes and corals.
The ship itself, sank on March 1, 1942 because of Japanese Torpedoes during World War II. More than 300 people died when it sank.
We dived up to 33 meters, visibility was not really good (probably around 5 meters) we surfaced when one of our buddy reach 50 in her tank.
The second dive after lunch time. when we went down, we found current was very strong. Our rope broke because of it. It was really dangerous diving in that situation, we reach around 14 meters, then our dive master decided to go up. we have to struggle to get into the boat. Not only current was very strong, the wave was big as well. So we missed the second dive.
It's lucky that all of us could be back safely on the boat.
